JOIFF Basic Fire Fighting
This course is designed to meet the initial fire awareness training for employees Participants can experience simulated fires relevant to their workplace. This includes the selection of a competent member of staff who will undertake fire safety responsibilities and other colleagues who will receive supplementary training regularly including the use of fire extinguishers in the workplace.
Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of the course, delegates will be able to:
- Select and operate appropriate basic firefighting equipment to the required level of competence
- Extinguish different classes of fire using correct techniques and appropriate media.
- Apply communication and control procedures and be aware of limitations involved.
Course Content:
- How fire develops and spreads.
- Chemistry of fire
- Classification of fires
- Types and uses of portable fire extinguishers
- Causes of fire
- Fire prevention
- Assessment of the size of fire which staff can handle with equipment provided.
- Fire phenomena such as backdrafts.
- Use of the RACE formula for safe incident control.
- Location and, when appropriate, the use of firefighting equipment.
- Isolating power supplies to machines and processes.
- Practical firefighting safety rules.
- Using the PASS formula for safe use of extinguishers.
- Practical hands-on exercises with :
CO2, dry powder, foam, water fire extinguishers, and fire blanket, including the use of extinguishers on fixed and vehicle simulators.
