Objective
The aim of the Offshore Crane Operator Stage 1 is to deliver basic knowledge and control skills, providing a foundation for safe crane operations and advancing the candidate to Stage 2.
Target Group
The Offshore Crane Operator Stage 1 training program is designed for personnel that has little or no crane operating experience and wish to gain theoretical and practical knowledge of offshore crane operations.
Examination
Candidates who complete the course will receive their Sparrows Offshore Crane Operator Stage 1 certificate. The certification is valid for two years. If the candidate does not complete Stage 2 before this certificate expires, they are required to repeat Stage 1 to remain certified and ensure ongoing competence.
Course Contents
The candidates will undertake classroom theory learning covering:
• Health and safety legislation
• Basic crane terminology
• Principles of stability
• Basic mechanical principles
• Safety devices
• Safe working loads
• British standard hand signals
• Rated capacity indicators
• Pre-operational checks/shutdown procedure
• Introduction to wire ropes Practical instruction covering the operating techniques to:
• Contribute to integrated safe systems of work • Carry out pre-start checks and inspections
• Lift, transfer, and position loads • Respond to hand signals and radio instruction
