Objective
The Offshore Crane Operator level 2 verifies that individuals can consistently, independently and safely perform this safety-critical role. The course covers advanced knowledge and demonstration of operating ability. Successful completion enables delegates to carry out deck lifts unsupervised.
Target Group
The Offshore Crane Operator Training & Assessment is designed for personnel who have completed the Offshore Crane Operator level 1 or equivalent standard or personnel who hold verifiable evidence to demonstrate that they have been operating cranes e.g. mobile cranes/tower cranes.
Examination
Delegates who successfully pass the final day assessment will receive their Offshore Crane Operator level2 assessment certificate. They will also receive a Stage 2 Logbook which should be completed with around 90 hours of supervised lifts if they wish to progress to Stage 3. The certification is valid for two years. If the delegate does not complete Stage 3 before this certificate expires, they are required to undertake the Stage 2 Re-assessment to remain certified and ensure ongoing competence.

• Basic crane terminology
• Principles of stability
• Basic mechanical principles
• Safety devices
• Safe working loads
• British standard hand signals
• Rated capacity indicators
• Pre-operational checks/shutdown procedure
• Introduction to wire ropes
Practical instruction covering the operating techniques to:
- Contribute to integrated safe systems of work
- Carry out pre-start checks and inspections
- Lift, transfer, and position loads
- Respond to hand signals and radio instructions. An assessment is carried out on the final day.
