OPITO FOET CA-EBS
Further Offshore Emergency Training (OPITO FOET) with Compressed Air Emergency Breathing System (OPITO CA-EBS)
Objective
The objective of this course is to provide all delegates with the opportunity to practice and demonstrate emergency response skills that are not possible to practice during drills, exercises, and emergency training offshore.
Target Group
All personnel who hold a valid BOSIET or FOET certificate, and who will be supplied with a compressed air emergency breathing system (CAEBS) during offshore helicopter travel.
Prerequisites
All delegates must hold a valid and in-date OPITO-approved BOSIET, BOSIET (with CAEBS), BOSIET (with EBS), TBOSIET, FOET, FOET (with CAEBS), FOET (with EBS) or TFOET certificate.
On the date on which the delegate is to undertake shallow water CA-EBS training, and prior to entering the water in which the training takes place, the delegate
•must possess a valid, unexpired Government seafarers medical certificate confirming the delegate’s fitness for offshore work (Where the medical fitness certificate for work at sea includes a restriction or is subject to conditions, possesses a statement from an appropriately registered practitioner that the restriction or condition does not result from a respiratory or ENT condition and there is no absolute contraindication to the shallow water delegate’s participation in the training)
OR
•Possesses a valid, unexpired offshore medical certificate issued by a body outside of the UK which is recognized as equivalent to the OGUK medical certificate of fitness for offshore work
AND
•On the date on which the delegate is to undertake shallow water CA-EBS training, and prior to entering the water in which the training takes place, the delegate gives to the OPITO-approved Centre a statement (medical self-assessment), that to the best of the delegate’s knowledge and belief, the delegate has no (current or past) medical condition which makes the delegate unfit to participate in the training.
This documentation is mandatory to attend the course.
Delegates must be aged 16 years or over and have a good grasp of the English language.
Examination
The course is a mix of both practical and theoretical sessions during which delegates will be required to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of the course contents.
Upon completion of the course, delegates will be awarded an OPITO-approved FOET with CAEBS certificate.
Certification is valid for 4 years. Prior to expiry delegates must undertake the FOET with CAEBS course to remain certified.
Course Contents
The FOET with CAEBS training covers the following areas:
Helicopter travel:
• Practical procedures for helicopter emergencies, with a focus on escaping from a helicopter during ditching
• Use of CAEBS in dry conditions and shallow water
• In water survival techniques
First aid:
• Emergency first aid procedures including CPR
Firefighting and self-rescue:
• Practical use of handheld fire extinguishers and self-rescue techniques to aid escape from low visibility and smoke-filled areas
